Owned by members, run for members

Yenda Producers is a co-operative, which means it is owned and democratically controlled by the people who use it. There are no outside shareholders to answer to. The people doing business with Yenda Prods are the same people who own it, which keeps the organisation focused on one thing: delivering real value to its members and the communities they farm in.

Member owned

Every member has an equal voice, regardless of the size of their shareholding. Decisions reflect collective needs, not external investor priorities.

Profits returned to members

Rather than flowing to outside investors, surpluses are shared back through dividends and rebates based on business conducted with the co-op.

Built for the long term

Decisions are guided by what is best for members and their communities over time, with a strong commitment to local employment and rural sustainability.

Becoming a member means your business directly contributes to, and benefits from, the strength of the cooperative. Find out more about membership, prepay rewards and how the co-op model works in practice.

Yenda Prods celebrates 100 years of being a Co-operative

Our beginnings

Our story began in 1925, when ten like-minded farmers in Yenda, New South Wales, came together with a vision to share resources. Incorporated on July 24th, 1925, under the NSW Co-operatives Act, Yenda Producers was established to market fresh produce and supply essential farming supplies. From the outset, the focus was practical, community-driven support for local growers.

In 1938, a devastating fire destroyed the co-operative’s cool stores, showroom and office block. Due to inadequate insurance, liquidation became a real risk. However, through the assistance of the Rural Bank and careful restructuring, the co-operative was able to continue trading.

That resilience carried Yenda Producers through the 1950s and beyond, shaping a culture of adaptability and long-term thinking that remains today.

From the late 1980’s onward, Yenda Producers entered a period of steady and strategic growth.

In 1988, a second branch was established in Leeton, expanding the co-operative’s reach beyond its founding township. This marked the beginning of a broader regional presence.

Further expansion followed in 1998 with the opening of a branch in Griffith. That same year, Yenda Producers purchased a local stock and station agency, Spencer & Bennett, which was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary.

Operating from the Griffith branch opposite the Griffith Livestock Marketing Centre, Spencer & Bennett specialises in livestock sales, clearing and property sales, and insurance broking. The business complements the core activities of the co-operative and has become a strong and successful extension of services to members and clients.

In 2006, Yenda Producers acquired a 50 percent stake in Riverina Water Engineering (RWE), which was incorporated as Yenda Prods - Irrigation Pty Ltd. Retaining its original trading name and based out of the Griffith branch, RWE was established to provide irrigation design and professional advice.

As demand grew, the business invested in plant and equipment and expanded into the design, installation and maintenance of irrigation systems across rural, domestic and government sectors. Today, RWE operates a fully stocked irrigation retail store and employs a specialised team of designers, installers and support staff.

Yenda Producers’ strength and performance has been recognised nationally. In 2012, the co-operative ranked number 42 in Australia’s Top 100 Co-operatives as published by the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM), and has maintained a place in the Top 100 every year since.

The following years saw continued investment in rural retail and services beginning with the acquisition of Fruit & Case in Yenda in 2016, followed by Akazien HOF (Coleambally) and Breed & Hutchinson in 2018.

Yenda Producers expanded into North-East Victoria with the acquisition of NorMac in 2020. This move diversified the business geographically, while remaining firmly aligned with its core purpose of rural retail and service delivery. Furthering the expansion, Yenda Producers acquired Agmate in 2024, with the Corryong branch now operating alongside existing branches Yenda, Fruit & Case, Leeton, Griffith, Baranduda and Wangaratta, with the continuity of experienced local staff retained.

In 2025, Yenda Producers Co-operative proudly celebrated 100 years of service to rural communities, marking a century of co-operation, resilience and shared success.

The milestone was recognised through celebrations held across the region. Trade Days, a Family Fair day and branch-wide birthday barbecues, came to a close at the Gala Dinner, a formal affair showcasing regional flavours and reflections on our history, bringing together members, staff, suppliers and communities to honour the people and partnerships that have shaped Yenda Producers since 1925.

Today, the co-operative employs nearly 50 full-time staff, alongside the teams within its subsidiaries, continuing to deliver practical, trusted support to members and customers across the Riverina and north-east Victoria. Building on its strong foundations, Yenda Producers remains focused on evolving with the needs of modern agriculture while staying true to its co-operative purpose.
